Well, I am trying to get my 70 running good again so I bought a tune up kit for it. Well to make a long story short, I don't understand points AT ALL. My timing is off and I can't figure out how to get it going again. I have a factory honda service manual and the clymers manual and neither are very helpful on timing. My question is; does anyone know anything about the electronic ignition stators you can get on ebay and if so what do you think? Here is a link to one of them. My concern is they are from malaysia but the price is good since a contact ignition stator is $114 from dratv.

I didnt know they made electronic ignition for the little 70's. I am going to try to find out more about these. I am really tempted to try one out. I am right in the middle of needing to replace my points and condenser and the coil doesnt look to good either.
A little off topic but I have a 72 ford truck that was a nightmare with points burning and always running like crap, never seemed to run good for very long. Then I put a Mallory electronic ignition on it and ever since then it has run great with no more problems. Thats what makes me want to try this on my little 70.

That is a very good write up. Having said that, looking at that guy's stator and knowing what mine looks like, I have decided that I need a new stator, so the question is, do I get the factory replacement from dratv, or do I take a chance on the electronic ignition one? I have done a lot of internet searching on the electronic ignitions and haven't found anyone that said that it didn't work. I think I am going to try it but frankly, this project has just been put on hold until next spring when I get more money. I think I am probably going to rebuild the top end at the same time. If anyone buys the electronic ignition and tries it before then, please post your impressions of it here. I think that would be helpful.

All the new knock off engines are CDI ignitions and work flawlessly.

There's a thread that talks about installing that exact kit. It looks like he was extremely happy with it. I think I may convert Bennett's bike over to the CDI ignition. I wish I had a TRX70 engine so I could have CDI and 12V....
